The Effect of Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose(HPMC) in Cement Construction Mortar

A. Water Retention Ability

For construction purpose, Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose can prevent the water from permeating the wall. Proper amount of water lingers in the mortar, enabling the cement to have a longer time to conduct hydration, water retention is proportional to the viscosity of cellulose ether solution in mortar, higher viscosity; better water retention. Once the water molecule increased, water retention falls. Due to  for the same amount construction purpose HPMC solution, more water means the decrease of viscosity. The enhancement of water retention ability will result in the prolongation of curing time of the construction mortar.

C. Lubricant Ability

All air entraining agents act play a wetting role , which help to reduce the surface tension and help the fine powder in the mortar disperse when mixed with water.

D. Anti-flowing, Anti-suspension Ability

A good anti-flowing resistance mortar means the risk of no hanging or downward flow danger in the thick-layer construction. The anti-flow property can be improved by the construction of Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose. Especially the newly developed special Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose can provide better anti-flowing, anti-hanging resistance performance.  

E. Bubble Content

High bubble content result in better mortar output ratio and workability, reducing the forming of crack. It can also reduce strength data, liquefaction phenomenon may occur. The bubble content is usually decided by mixing time. This product is widely used for increasing hydraulic construction material property such as: cement and plaster. In the cement mortar, it can not only increase water retention ability, extending the correction time and open time, but also reduce the flow phenomenon.
