Re-Dispersible Polymer(RDP) Principles and Functions

Re-dispersible Polymer has the same effect as primary dispersion, i.e., bonding pigments and fillers during drying or curing to improve their adhesive strength to organic or inorganic substrates. Due to the water soluble protective colloid, so water retention is improved as well, it is also an important advantage in the hydraulic binder modification . This hydraulic binder (such as: cement) needs right amount of water to form solidification. If this binder is very thin, water will be absorbed by substrate or evaporated and removed, resulting in not enough water to hydrate and not enough strength.

Adding RDP has dual functions. First, it can increase mortar’s water retention, forming one layer and reduce water evaporation, second it plays an additional role of adhesive function to increase mortar strength.

The cement mortar with RDP, Polymer making the rigid and brittle cement mortar have certain tenacity, reduce elastic modulus so it has a higher plasticity under full load. Adding organic adhesive can improve adhesive & cohesive strength of binder, and improves abrasion resistance and flexural strength.

Putting more amount of synthetic resin to increase the flexibility. The ratio of organic to inorganic binders is specified by resin: cement,mortar according to the mortar regulations.
